Daisy Gladys Brown had a meaningful, fulfilling life and is affectionately remembered as Auntie D, Aunt Daisy and Mom to so many people who loved her so much. As a strong, loyal, loving, cheerful, kindhearted, hard working person she made a lasting impact on the lives of everyone who knew her. Ms. Daisy went home to be with her Lord on February 7, 2019 at the ripe age of 98 years after a long struggle with dementia.
She was born on October 8, 1920 in Aenon Town, Clarendon, Jamaica (the 8th of 10 children of Samuel and Beatrice Robinson). Daisy received her childhood education at the Aenon Town All Age School and later attended AVE’S Beauty School, St. Andrew, Jamaica where she graduated as a certified beautician.
She met the love of her life (the tall, dark and handsome) Ucal Samuel Brown and they were married in 1942. They moved to Borobridge, St. Ann where they opened a variety shop. Daisy worked upstairs in the shop as a hairdresser and also taught the beauty trade to other young women. She and Sam had a wonderful home and were blessed with nine amazing children.
Daisy migrated to the United States in 1965, and worked for many years as an outstanding caregiver and eventually brought her husband and most of her family to the USA. She was a most skilful cook, baker, gardener, and seamstress, and a good singer. Her strength, tenacity and love for the Lord Jesus Christ enabled her to achieve whatever she set her mind to do.
In 1981 she retired and went to her home in Montego Bay, Jamaica where she lived the rest of her life. She is truly an unforgettable person and will be greatly missed. As her nephew Duval lovingly stated, “Auntie D is truly the last of the Mohegans.”
Daisy is survived by her children: Wesley Brown, Desmond and Georgette Brown, Inez Brown ( the surviving wife of Keith), Delroy and Joyce Brown, Martin and Desis Brown, Audrey and William Hall, Lorraine and Delroy Worell, Paulette and Al Warren, Glenmore Brown, 32 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
